Here's an interesting Kickstarter campaign with a twist on the old SLR 3D converter lens. My thoughts are that it would be useful for 4K cameras with wide-angle lenses.

They will have various formats include MPO and SBS files apparently.

By now, you probably all have seen the Poppy, (somewhat like Google Cardboard with a built-in camera): http://www.poppy3d.com/

And, of course, the Intel venture into 3D capture: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/realsense-3d-camera.html

These sunglasses are not stereo, but if you would want to take 2D, while holding on to your 3D setup, then these might be for you: http://www.spytecinc.com/inventio-hd-pro-1080p-video-sunglasses.html

And this is Barry's next camera (the price is right:D): http://www.adorama.com/SOPMWTD300.html

Damn, at that price, why not buy 2!! Looks like they're practically giving it away:p:p:p:p See, if you'd start following Don's stock tips, you could have one! I just wish that it was a little bigger though:D

Here's part of the description:
"Affordable and fully integrated, this 3D camcorder reduces the burden of complicated user adjustments before shooting, such as left- and right-lens alignment. The PMW-TD300 is a powerful tool to support the needs of professional 3D video production, combining mobility, stability and affordability."

It even says it's affordable. Who can argue with that. Also, it doesn't have all those complicated convergence controls like we have on the Gopros!

PS: It came out in 2011 so it's got all the cutting edge stuff too. I'll bet it's selling like hotcakes:)

Interesting how much money was invested in making 3D mainstream back then, and where the industry is now. I guess we can thank the 4K revolution for that.
I think we can thank/blame the industry for the HORRIBLY BOTCHED rollout of 3D. They could hardly have done a worse job if they tried. The one bright spot from back then is that they did do a pretty good job with some of our comsumer/prosumer camcorders, for which I'm very grateful. Looks to me like they're going for a botched rollout repeat with 4K. Fire, aim, ready:) :)

Hello guys!

Here is the program I wrote for conversion between few stereo formats. Among other possibilities, it can be used for batch encoding side-by-side mp4 deinterlaced files from splitted JVC avi files, making time-lapses from pictures or video, etc. The program has some very interesting features as well which are important for me and I believe some of you might find them useful as well. The program with some accompanied files in zip form (3D_Converter_V098.zip) can be downloaded here:

http://dsc.ijs.si/damir.vrancic/down_3d/Software/

Don't forget to read pdf file (inside zipped file) which shortly explains some of the program options. When I find time, I'll try to make short tutorials as well.
You can get some of my 3D videos as well (in Full side-by-side or squeezed form) by going to parent directory and then into sub-directory "Movies".

Cheers, Damir

Wow, Damir, you really know your 3D stuff. I will give I a try. Thanks for posting.

Update: I just download your Spring Awakening in 3D-LR AVI video and it played perfectly in PowerDVD15. Very impressive! A neat way to get people to see the value of 3D as you go from black and white to color 3D in depth.

Thanks, Bob, for kind words. Most of my club members were not so happy about blurred background, but it did not bother me too much. Once I will probably upload it to YouTube as well.

By the way, there is a new version of 3D converter available (3D_Converter_V099.zip), which is available at the same site as given above.
The changes are the following:

V0.99 (from V0.98)

- Added Reverse L-R option (which shuffles left and right video at the output stage)
- Blur option is added when defining output resolution. Useful when reducing output resolution (Moirre).
- Added save and load layout settings (all settings on the screen can be saved or loaded by the user)

There is another version (V0.99b) of 3D converter which corrected problems related to file names or directory names which contained spaces (please, choose V099b zip version).

Moreover, as I have promised before, I've done two short tutorials on YouTube for initial settings and conversion from separate L and R interlaced files to side-by-side progressive ones:

Tutorial 3D converter - initial settings:

Tutorial 3D converter - interlaced to progressive:

I am planning to add some more tutorials in the near future.

The Miops I've had a look at first hand, my BIL got one when it was in Kickstarter, the first gen and second one. I'll be picking one up soon after I get my Nikon D800 next month. We think it will work with 3D with two DSLR's but will require a splitter. Will find out pretty soon because then we'll have two D800's to play with.

Bob, I was excited about this but the specs say maximum control distance is 20 meters. That might mean 10-15 meters with 100% reliability.
