I'm shopping for 3tb hdd (2 for now) for my new synology ds1511. Can anyone recommend any brand? Im thinking of going with 7200 than 5400 rpms?

Which is top rated 3tb hdd now?

on the synology's website, there's s list of compatible drives. Given that, I bought some that were NOT on that list ;-)


I've had mine for about a week now - so far so good. I got a great deal on Amazon for $106 each for hitachi 0S03228. I bought 5 of them. These drives are 'coolspin 5400'. There maybe heat issues if you are going after 7200 RPM.


I would recommend taking a look at their recommendations before venturing out. There is a dedicated forum for the 1511+ as well here at AVSForum, take a read there for some great info as well.


BTW, I just checked , the one's I bought - they are around $154 now - ouch !!

Thank you. I think thats a cool spin drive. Im looking for synology recommended 3tb 7200. Not sure i can with Hitachi or seagate, unfotunately wd dont have 3tb 7200 drives?

I go with the Western Digital Black series drives. They have a large built on cache and spin at 7200. There performance is very nice. There is also one pretty big deal ( at least to me ) on why I get the Black series drives. They all have a full 5 year warranty on them. The Blue and Green only have 3 year.

WD dont have black on 3tb. Only green?
