Hi everyone,
If you're a gamer and either play your PS2, Gamecube or Virtual Console (Wii) games on your new 2009 Panasonic LCD/Plasma HDTV, you would've no doubt noticed that you have no control over the aspect ratio when in GAME mode and that it is permanently locked at 16:9. This is important because most PS2, Gamecube and Virtual Console (Wii) games were natively released in a 4:3 aspect and look stretched when displayed at 16:9. While it's easy to change to CINEMA mode (where you do have control over aspect ratio) to resolve this issue, it's tedious to have to go into the menu, select the "Picture" setting and then change to CINEMA mode every time and let's face it, you shouldn't have to do this. There's no good reason why you shouldn't have aspect ratio control while in GAME mode. Not only that, but it's not feasible to use CINEMA mode all the time instead of GAME mode because the picture is darker and there is slightly more input lag.
Therefore, let's alert Panasonic to our concerns and tell them that we want aspect ratio control while in GAME mode. Copy the following text and paste it to this Panasonic feedback page.
Dear Panasonic,
I am the owner of one of your 2009 LCD/Plasma HDTV's and find it unusual that I don't have aspect ratio control whilst in GAME mode and that it is permanantly locked at 16:9. This is important because most PS2, Gamecube and Virtual Console (Wii) games I own were natively released in a 4:3 aspect and look stretched when displayed at 16:9. Changing to CINEMA mode to correct this is not an option due to increased input lag and an overall darker image. Changing picture mode is also tedious due to the lack of a "picture mode" button on the remote resulting in having to enter the menu, selecting the Picture setting and changing between GAME and CINEMA mode every time I switch between a native 4:3 game and a native 16:9 game.
Therefore I am requesting that this issue be resolved in a future firmware update to this line of HDTV's. There is no good reason why aspect ratio control shouldn't be possible in GAME mode and I shouldn't be forced to use CINEMA mode when I want to play a native 4:3 game.
