Hello,

I own a Toshiba 65H80 and love it for movies but I have an extensive anime collection which is 99% 4:3 aspect and I have decided to purchase a Toshiba 43" to view them. Here's where your input comes in http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

I will either buy the Toshiba 43A61 or the Toshiba 43H71 but since 97% of anime dvd's are not progressive or anamorphic should I even bother looking at the 43H71 and save about $600 . I guess to sum it would non-progressive/anamorphic dvd's look any better on the HDTV model. I cannot find either model locally to compare them directly http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/frown.gif

Thank you in advance for your opinions and experience,

Ariel

No dvd's are progressive. The players are what makes them progressive. Since they are 4:3 then they cannot be anamporhic no matter how much you would like them to. Only widescreen can be anamorphic. For your case though i would say go ahead and save the money. HD wouldnt be that much of an advantage for you I don't think.

Thanks,

I think I'll buy the 50H71 since it comes out cheaper then the 43H71 becuase it needs a $150 stand for the 43". The new toshiba 4:3 HDTV's have built in 3:2 pulldown so I think i'll bite the bullet.

Yes Casey I've been on the waiting list for the Macross Boxset coming out in December " Hopefully ". Good thing I just sold my excess anime DVD's on ebay for a grand now to scrape up another $700 to buy the 50H71 http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

You guy's have been pimpin the quality of the Macross Boxset so you better deliver http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

Sakura,

Because you are a big animee fan, I wanted to let you know that I am currently working on the Macross 9 disc box set, and it will be a progressive scan, 4x3 disc. Alot of time and energy has gone into this production. If you are a big Macross fan, and are planning on getting the box set, this may help you decide on which tv to get. Good luck.

Sorry but no dvd's are progressive. They are all interlaced. it is part of the format. Also they won't be anamorphic becuase they are 4:3.

Most TVs only do video mode deinterlacing, which only creates a close approximation of original frame structure. This is what Savageone79 was referring to, but what he is unaware of is that most DVDs are from film source & are encoded with the full frame structure available to a progressive DVD player. Almost all Progressive DVD players (except the Pioneer 434) do film mode deinterlacing which is far better because it can create, from film originated material, original complete frames.

The actual movie part of most DVDs have very good flags & rarely cause a progressive DVD player to drop from "Film" mode to "Video Mode".

Savageone79, please educate yourself ! You keep telling people this same half-truth.Please don't give advice if you don't have a thorough understanding of the topic, if it's technical, provide a link & let the respondent make up there own mind.
