I ran the THX Optimizer on one of my DVD's and came up with this for the 40EX400:

Picture Mode: Custom

Backlight: Max

Picture: 50

Brightness: 54

Color: 61

Hue: 0

Color Temp: Neutral

Sharpness: 20

Cine-motion: Auto

Advanced Settings

Adv. Contrast Enhancer: Low

Black Corrector: Medium

Gamma: 0

Clear White: Low

Live Color: Low

I'm sure it isn't perfect, but it looks a lot better than it before. Hope this helps

It took me over 2 hrs to calibrate it - but the picture looks great now. Some ppl are down on the gray panel on the bottom of the tv, but I think it looks ok. Performance wise: I've yet to see any blur (watched NCAA basketball all day yesterday and the picture looked awesome) and my PS3 games look gorgeous. I upgraded from a 720p 32" Samsung and it's a very noticeable improvement.

I do like it! i have not tried all the features of it yet, but i do like the fact that it has the auto shut off since i have it in my room although i end up shutting it off before it does by itself. But the picture is nice and i kinda like the gray bar at the bottom, makes it look different than all the other all back tvs out there

No worries - I'm glad it's working for you. I still find myself making minor tweaks here and there, but the picture looks awesome now.

I found the above settings gave a slightly washed out picture. I came upon the settings below just by trial and error---no professional calibration. If they work for others, great; if not, maybe they can at least be used as a jumping off point. I had searched the web for settings for this TV and found nothing else, so I might as well put this out there.

I just fired this set up - very nice - but I am unable to access the custom picture mode to try the calibration, even with scene select set to general (see manual p. 31). The default custom setting is pleasant, but I really need to make a few minor tweaks. Any thoughts would be helpful and appreciated. DC
