Has any one seen this anywhere? It has a very attractive price. Is it NEC glass?

I've seen other Maxent plasma set at other stores. I would assume they are not since they all have looked poor to me and we hear so much good stuff about NEC.

I have seen the Akai PDP 4298ED at my local costco (Park Meadows, CO) and was very impressed with the PQ. It was on my short list of sets, but I thought the price was not low enough given I can get the Panasonic 37" for a few hundred more (but only online). I would not consider the Maxent given the PQ of the Akai (1200:1 contrast.)


I'm considering the 30" sceptre at costco online, but as the prices on the 32" LCDs are coming down I'm still sitting on the fence.

Every Akai model I've seen has been next to "brand names" including Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer, LG even Samsung....all of them made the Akai's look poor in my opinion. Blacks always have looked purple/blueish.

Sometimes I'm convinced that the retailers detune the off-brands to encourage bait-and-switch. Can any of these be ISF calibrated?

You have a point. A local chain verbally bashed the Tatung models they used to carry, even though the British mags always rate them highly. I was told, we kept them to show how bad they were as compared to the usual suspects.

Ps. The UK mags also don't rate the NEC models well?
