Hello,

Is sitting 80" (6.7ft) away from a 42" Panasonic 720P set too close? Would I be seeing SDE, or pixels? Would it be better to get a 1080P at that distance, or not really worth it?

I have researched this forum, reading old threads, but haven't really gotten a definitive answer.

That's because there is no definitive answer, it depends on YOU and your particular eyesight and sensitivities.

If you have researched this forum, then you have surely found links to various distance calculators and charts/graphs about viewing distance. However, any chart or calculator is only an estimate based on average eyesight. The only thing left is to go into best buy or circuit city with a tape measure and see for yourself.

When you do this -- unless you have a halo neck brace and your head remains perfectly still at all times -- consider that you will not ALWAYS be at exactly 80". If you lean back you may be at 7ft+, if you are sitting forward you may be at 6ft. This is the borderline zone for 720p vs. 1080p, and the difference between 6ft and 7ft may be enough, so go view for yourself.
