46" LCD (LED) recommendations

870 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  spyboy
Hi all

I am in the market to (finally!) replace my 40" Sony XBR1 LCD that I bought about 5 years ago.

Looking for recommendations on a new 46" LCD (LED) to replace this set. It is going into our family room which is open concept and has 2 windows and 2 large entry ways, so fairly bright room.

Must haves:

- at least 120hz refresh

- 1080P

Nice to haves

- 3D capability

- wireless access

Budget - $1500

There are so many competitors and models out there now, it's hard to choose, but would prefer to stick with the major brands (Sony, Samsung, Pioneer). I'm a little iffy on LG, as I still remember them from the "Goldstar" days.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks

This question is asked constantly so if you scan the first 4-5 pages of this forum you will find information. You can also do a search under "46" and find other threads. You could actually go to the store and see these sets real time then come back with specific questions. You can also post this in the "what LCD should I buy" thread at the top of the first page

Umm, Pioneer dropped out of the TV business a couple years ago, though there are still some new Kuros around.

A few people may actually try to answer your question.

At your price point you can probably get a 47 inch fully back-lit LED from Vizio rather than the less desireable edge-lit that is what most of the LED sets are. LED Back-lit with local dimming is the basic tech you would want to have.

According to Consumer Reports, both LG and Vizio are top-tier brands that are as reliable as Sony and Samsung.

Vizio is second only to Samsung in sales of LCD TVs in the US and Vizio sells a lot of TVs here, it's pretty close in sales between Samsung and Vizio.
