Morning AVS people!

[Equipment: LG 47" LCD 120Hz]

So, I've recently got a PS3 from Santa and I can't get it to display in 1080p. It will only do 1080i, this is with a HDMI cable. I've tried searching, but can't find any info... Not sure if I'm asking in the right location now? I've also tried messing with every option in the PS3... no luck

Another thing, that might be off is the DVD playback. I heard the PS3 is an upconverting DVD player - however the playback is horrible compared to my old DVD player (I had an older model OPPO)... any ideas? Is it possible the OPPO was just superioir to the PS3 when it comes to playing DVD's?

[Still haven't tried a Blu-ray Disc yet.]

Games do look amazing though! Crystal clear and awesome - the sounds is great... I have it connected via the optical to a 3.1 system (spaced limited).

Happy Holidays!!!!

Any help is much appreciated!!!!!

I have no clue why you would not be getting it to display 1080p over HDMI on a 1080p capable TV, works fine for me. But you are correct about the DVD upscaling, while the PS3 is a superior bluray player to others standalone players costing 2-3x more, Oppo even older ones still are better for upscaling dvd's.

Just to double confirm, under the display settings, you have tried MANUALLY setting your resolution to 480p/720p/1080p only? That's really what it should be set at for HDMI.

Thanks guys... I'm not talking about the games - I know they come in different Hi-def versions.

I'm talking about the system settings, it will only go to 1080i.

Also, the OPPO I have is about 2 years old (a silver looking one, I don't have the model #). It totally looks AWESOME compared to the PS3 DVD playback... I'm no "video-phile" - and anyone can tell...

Any ideas, why I can't display 1080p on my set?

Thanks!!!!
