4805 set up question

810 Views 20 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  krasmuzik
Just got my IF 4805 not long ago and not sure if it is working correctly. Don't get me wrong picture, color everything is great but if sitting on a level platform i must jack up the rear of the unit something like 3 1/2 inches just to get it shine on the wall and not on my ceiling. Is this right? it sure don't look right. I mean it has the little adjustable foot in the front of the unit but like I said I must keep it closed all the way and still stick a 2x4 under the rear of the unit. Does something need to be adjusted. I looked in the manual but it says nothing about this. I was just wondering if everyones 4805 is the same way.

Take your screen height multiply by 27%. That is how far below the screen the projector needs to be.
See what I did was instead of mounting to the ceiling I have recessed a shelf in a rear soffet to hold the PJ. This shelf is only about 13 inches from the ceiling. Is here anway of ajusting the PJ other than tilting it as I have done so that I can still use it as planned?
Try to figure out a way to mount it upside down on the ceiling of your built in shelf.

Thanks for the help guys, that is kinda what I thought. Oh well it doesn't hurt to ask.
A low-profile mount will probably work.

Get some foam and cut out some supports - the tilt will be much much less if you put it upside down!
Just be sure to leave a decent amount of space open behind (and in front of) the 4805 for the inlet/outlet vents [ used for cooling the lamp ] .

DaGamePimp and krasmuzik...How big of a screen should I go with if sitting at about 10 feet away? I know this is probably discussed in the 4805 thread, but don't wanna read the 100+ pages. And also what ratio should I choose? I know the ratio has alot to do with what I watch the most, say it's a split between DVDs/HDTV/SD? What would be the best compromise but with a strong focus on movies?
The 4805 is a 16:9 native projector, you should stick with a 16:9 screen for that reason. Recommended seating distance is about 2x the width of the screen in order to eliminate (in most cases) SDE. 10ft would mean optimal 120" seating from screen, so you should have around a 70" screen. At 70" the image can be pretty bright (and causes rainbows and headaches), you're probably going to need an nd filter.

How the heck did you get up to special member so dang fast?

Might as well put JaPhule on your help me list - at this rate he is out doing us all!
kras,

I was wondering the same thing last week

I try my best to help anyone that uses any equipment similar to mine including the 4805, my pioneer receiver, infinity speakers, dvd player, and even universal remote.

I'm about 10 feet away, maybe slightly more, and I have a 6 foot wide screen. Screen Door is slightly noticable, but doesn't bother me that much. I couldn't imagine going any wider though than 6 feet from that distance.

Great Idea Kras, I never thought of that. I will head down to JoAnn's fabric and find some nice think foam today and see how that works.
Or the nearby craft store - that floral foam might shape easily!

Damn Kras, You are the idea man. That's an even better idea for foam. I have to pass a craft store on the way home from work and I know for a fact that they have tons of that floral foam. Thanks again
No I am just married and have been dragged thru the store while the wife picks out fake flowers (we have allergies!)

:D

Not that there is anything wrong with going into those stores by yourself!

:D
Yeah, Everytime I gotta go into one of these stores without my wife or daughter I think to myself "I wonder if this is what chick feels like when one walks into our local sports bar/chicken wing joint by herself"

Yep.
yea some member that owns the Infocus 5000 told me that I should be able to run a 80-90 in. screen for a 1.3 screen width ratio. I thought that was a little too close, but his is a 720p that 1.3 width ratio is good on his setup. I've seen it in person, but I think I'll be a little more conservative by going with a 64 in. already-made screens at my viewing distance. Have anyone got any experiences with Carada screens? I can get one of those brand new at an affordable price. If I was to go with something by Stewart, I definitly need to be looking at the used sections.

Also, how high should I mount it on? I don't want the image to be too high up on the wall, so I won't be jerking my neck to watch it. I want the center of a 64in. 1.78 ratio screen to be at my eye level or slightly higher. I'd also want to be able to use as little of keystone as possible. So say my eyes are at about 35-37 inches off the ground when I sit down, how high does the projector have to be with the least keystone?
