Hi all,

I connected my Denon 5900 to IF 4805 via component, and using a Stewart Firehawk 82" 16:9 screen. My question is, should i set the Video Mode in my Denon dvd player as 'Progressive' or 'Interlaced' to give me best video performance. i.e 480p vs 480i? When i tried both, it seems that the colors are more natural when i set to 'Interlaced' i.e. 480i on my dvd player. Appreciate any inputs you have. Thanks!

Tough call really. The 5900 is supposed to have great picture quality in 480P mode, but the 4805 uses the same deinterlacer, so they should be pretty much the same. Maybe the 480I signal doesn't get as degraded when it gets converted to 480P?

Not "quite" the same but a comparo of a Denon 2900 vs an X1 sees the X1 superior.

Quite amazing really as the HTPC smashes the 2900 on either option, it seems it would do the same to the 5900? (really make one wonder what all the $'s go to in the $$$$$ DVD players? hmmmm)

Hi guys, after spending several hours toggling between 480i and 480p on my Denon 5900, i concluded that setting the mode to 'interlaced' on my DVD player provides better video performance. Odd isn't it, considering both the Denon & 4805 uses the same Faroudja de-interlacer?
