4k HDMI Help!

239 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Mpferd
My theater is now complete, Sheetrock and insulation, paint and all. I just hooked up my 4k projector and found out the two HDMI runs to my projector do not support 4k (despite how it was advertised on Amazon), just 1080P only. Very frustrated. I don't know how to run a new HDMI now without ripping up my Sheetrock.

Question is: Is there a way to convert my existing two HDMI's into something that supports 4k so I don't have to put in a new run?

Anyway to secure a new cable to the end of the existing one and pull it back through? If not you will have to cut a small channel in the drywall to run a new cable. If you do that I suggest you install conduit so that in the future it’s easy to swap out a bad cable or upgrade to a new standard.

I tried and can only get about 3 ft through before it gets stuck. I'll have to do a channel cut in the ceiling and patch it. If I do a conduit it will have to be a much wider cut, and I'll have to drill through a bunch of joists. I think I will just go through the Sheetrock just enough to tuck the cord in, then patch it. Luckily I have 5/8" Sheetrock so it will be plenty of room.
Irrespective of how to bury the cable in the ceiling, make sure you buy a fiber optic cable to run from your AVR to the projector. Only a fiber optic cable can guarantee a full 18Gbps bandwidth to support 4K HDR. Brands like Ruipro and Monoprice have high quality well reviewed fiber optic cables.
Make sure you do a home run from the AVR to the proj, don't use HDMI wall plates as they are almost always unreliable with 4K.

Thanks. I bought a 25' Monoprice and tested to make sure it passes 4k. I just have to bury it now.
