4x TDK discs and an E80?

I know that the e80 wil only high speed dub at 1x. I've been using TDK discs (labeled 2x) for over a year with only a few coasters (maybe 5-10 out of 300-400 discs).

I purchased a spindle of 25 TDK 4x discs at costco and have tried 4 so far, each time getting a "dubbing failed" message. Are these bad discs or is there some reason the 4x discs won't burn on the e80 (even at 1x)????

I've been thinking about adding an e85, but if I've got to purchase different sets of discs for each recorder I might not.

Ok, now I think it's a problem with the program I'm dubbing. I just tried one of my 2x discs and about 10 seconds into the process I got the same "dubbing failed" message.

Tried dubbing another program on one of the same 4x discs I got the failure on and it's working fine. That problem seems solved but:

Any ideas on what would cause HS dubbing to fail on that original program?
My understanding is that copy protected material can only be dubbed to DVD-RAM, deleting from the hard drive as to goes (so you can only have one copy) and that it won't record to DVD-R. I'm very new here and I don't know how to tell in advance whether the material in question is so protected, but that would be my guess.
Re-recorded the program in question from On-demand (the Jones/Tarver fight) and it high speed dubbed fine. Problem solved.
