So I have a GTX970 running via HDMI into a receiver. I'm never able to get the games (even when Dolby certified: The Evil Within) to output to that format. I either have to run "All Channels" or I have to simulate it with an upmix. I'm able to bitstream audio codecs like Dolby and DTS through Kodi but not through my Steam collection.

Another forum user said he was able to do this:

Thoughts on being able to run 5.1 when gaming?

Can you post your machine specs - did you enable 7.1 in the driver's? Output to hdmi right? Right click on sound icon by clock, choosenpropertes, set the audio device to 7.1 or 5.1

Done
