5.1 Setup for around $750?

Hey guys, I'm looking to set up a 5.1 system and so far this is what I've put together..

Denon AVR-591 - $350

Fluance AVHTB+ - $252

Dayton SUB-100 - $124

Speaker and HDMI cables - $36

Now all this comes out to around $760, and I was wondering if i'm spending my money in the right place. I don't want to upgrade later down the road, and i'm not looking for a super high end setup either. I'm going to be using this mostly for gaming. Also, if anyone has the fluance set, I want to hear your opinion, because I've just found mixed reviews around the web. Thanks!!

Well, if you are dead set on building it out I can't help you. So many opinions on each component. But I just went with the Onkyo HT-S9100 THX for around $950 and love it. And a friend just went with the Onkyo HT-S6300 7.1 system for $500 and loves it. And I was very impressed with that $500 as well. I just really wanted the THX this time around so I spent more. But I think the $500 for the HT-S6300 with 10" 290W sub, 1.4 HDMI, and iPod dock to be an awesome setup for the price.

But if you are set against an all in one box of components, then...
No offense to the previous poster, but you can get much better sound/build quality for your $$ if you go with separates.

Here's an option:

Fronts: 2x Polk Audio Monitor 70's

Center: 1x Polk Audio CS2

Surrounds: 2x Emotiva ERD-1's

SubTotal: ~$750-$800

Subwoofer: BIC F12: $185

Total: ~$935-$985.

Check Newegg's prices for the Polks -- they go on sale over there almost every other week. And, the ERD-1s are on holiday sale right now at the Emotiva online store for $290/pair (regularly $350).

Good luck!

If you dont want to upgrade later on why not just go part by part and buy some better gear? will cost more than $750 but in the end you wouldnt have to upgrade later and will have much better equipment because of it
Well I'm pretty much dead set on the receiver and sub, the only component really in question are the fluance speakers.. And as far as the onkyo htib, I don't have room for a 7.1 setup, and I'd rather spend the extra money to get 5 good speakers rather than 7 "meh" speakers.

I don't want to spend more than $780 total right now, and seeing as I don't have a constant stable income (15, no job), I don't really want to spend over a grand on sound.. At least for now

EDIT: Thanks, but what I meant was $750 for everything, receiver included. Those speakers are just too much :/ But, now that you mention it, I might opt for the BIC F12 instead of the SUB-100..

Go to www.ac4l.com and look at the Celestion speakers.

Yea but in the long run you are saving money if you arent upgrading the system later on down the road. Buy them piece by piece so you arent spending all the money right now. You get better quality and arent paying to upgrade like you said you wanted to avoid

Look, I just want to spend $800 now (maybe a bit more), and be done with it. I'll buy my dream system when I'm done school, out of the house, and have a job. I'm not looking for high end here, just something decent to play xbox on.

Anyways though, what can be said about the Fluance Speaker Set? And for subs, BIC F12 or Polk Audio PSW505? Or anything in the $200 price range really...
Zieg's suggestion is interesting, Pioneer's new SP series would work well with your budget - you could spend less on a receiver.

Ron
I would go for the Bic sub over the Polk sub. From the reviews that I have

read - the Fluance does not do well at loud volumes. If you can play a

little with the budget - Then Pioneer is my first choice.

How much more would it be? And any specific pioneer models?

At Best Buy

The towers with the B21 bookshelves and the center - will be

about $370

Look at refurbish receivers from www.ac4l.com

sorry just dont understand why you would put in your original post that you didnt want to upgrade later if thats the case. made it seem like you were looking for good quality that you werent going to be wanting more out of it down the road.

Any HTiB would be good enough for you then
If it were me I'd start with 2.1 or 3.1 using upgraded speakers and sub and then add the surrounds later. Behringer P2030P studio monitors, while homely, are very highly regarded for their bang for the buck sound quality. Start with 3 of them for LC&R and then add your surrounds later. You can listen to them at your local Guitar Center or buy online . For the sub I'd buy the best $200 sub that you can find. There is little in audio more frustrating than not having enough sub.

That and the Bic sub just put me way over budget.. I really don't want to spend over maybe $850 max.

I really dont want to go htib, what i'm trying to do is make the best out of what I can afford.
at around 800 the best quality HTiB you could get might be your best choice.

Otherwise go grab 5 infinity primus P152's for 75 a piece, a $200 range sub and you still have 300 for a receiver

I'm not sure how a primus P152 would work out for a center channel..
