This reply does not seem correct to me. My 506UY can certainly stretch 4.3 to fill the screen. I'm sure the 7UY would be the same.

Yes of course it can, but he's asking if it can stretch 4:3 content broadcast in 720/1080 on the hd channels. This it can not do, much to the dismay of many.

But you CAN use the tv's zoom function to fill the screen with 4:3 HD...

My understanding is that the need to stretch 4:3 material was more a matter of avoiding burn-in with plasmas, as opposed to an actual preference for the way it looks. The new 7UY blue phosphorus is suppose to be as resistant to burn-in as a CRT. So do we really need to even stretch anymore?

Burn-in is not the issue here, un-even phosphor wear is. By using the center of the display (4:3) with out Colored Side Bars will cause un-even phosphor wear and over time the outer edge of the screen will be brighter then the center. It will be noticeable when viewing full screen programing.
