How big is your viewing room? You may not want to sit closer than 10' to a 61" tv.
Plasma's last about 15,000-30,000 hours until half-brightness (that's about 7 to 15 years if you watched 6 hours a day (that's alot of TV!)
Buy whichever unit you think has a better "look" to your eye. If you didn't like the Pioneer, don't buy it. Remember, though, that you can always have the plasmas "tweaked" by the experts and make it look ALOT better than a store which just throws it on a wall and turns it on without tweaking brightness/contrast/black levels, etc.... This could be a "hidden cost" to a plasma.
Other costs would be similar to both, like cabling, HDTV signals source (satellite, HDTV cable, DVD with progressive/component out, etc.)
I'm not familiar with DLP (except the rainbow effect seen on other units I've previewed. I'm VERY sensitive to that and it distracts me from the program...)
