If someone handed you $5000 and said that it must be used for a CRT projector, which one would you buy ? And why ?

Oh....God.... the dilemma.

I am partial to NEC's, cause I have a few, I like the picture they produce, and I have owned and seen other brands. But in your situation.... I'd try to find a good 9" unit. Maybe start there. Brand is optional at this point. May want to try some of the regular sellers here and see what you can get.

Best of luck.

OK, what Brands/Models would you recommend ? How new/old a unit would $5000 buy ? Which are the easiest to use with the best pq ?

I would get a 9" crt projector from either Sony or Barco. There are great deals on EBAY

I would also consider how often I was going to use the PJ. If you get a 9" for $5,000.00, the tubes are probably going to have some wear on them to begin with. And when it comes time to retube it expect to pay some major cash. If you get a 8" for $5,000.00 it should have new or close to new tubes in it and when you do retube it, it will not be as costly.

First choice- NEC XG with new tubes

Second- Barco 808/1208 with rebuilt tubes

Third- MArquee 8110/8500 with rebuilt tubes.

I agree with Curt on the first choice ... NEC XGs are great!

Second choice: Sony 1292

Third Choice: NEC PG 9
