If I am not mistaken, the new 5500 series of Replaytv units doesn't have commercial advance and networking capabilities as does the older 5000 series. Are there any advantages of purchasing one of the newer models, or should I stick with one of the 5000 series units?

One more question. Do the Replaytv units work well with DISH network receivers?

Thank you.

1. No, they are exactly the same hardware and software. You will only lose features by upgrading.

2. Yup, they work just fine.

5500s still have the same in-home networking abilities (streaming between 5xxx boxes, network scheduling / conflict resolution). What the 5500s lose (besides CA) is *Internet* show sharing, so you can't send a show to be stored on another RTV.

On the plus side, it seems like all the 5500s will have the new quieter fan...
