I recently acquired a 503CMX. I am quite happy with it.

I find that when I watch non-HD satellite picture, I use the "Wide" mode, so that I don't have to look at the grey panels, and the screen is filled. I find this quite satisfying for most material of this type.

However, I want to improve the scaling over the internal scaler, so I was considering the Faroudja NRS. My understanding here is that the picture would be output via RGB, and therefore the 503CMX would not offer the "Wide" mode; it would lock in "Full" mode.

This means that any adjustment to the aspect ratio, etc. would have to be done in the Faroudja. However, I believe it only offers Zoom, Anamorphic, and 4x3 modes. None of these seem ideal; Zoom cuts off way too much of the picture, Anamorphic is way too stretched, and 4x3 leaves you with those grey panels.

Any suggestions, or am I incorrect in my analysis?

Do have a hunt around the forum with the search function as I'm sure I recall some long running issues with the NRS scaler and the Pioneers involving 'tearing' of the image in some circumstances.
