My 5040 picked this up today. Since there aren't any release notes

(as usual) in the messages area, please post bug fixes, new bugs,

and/or new features if you notice any.

BTW the files at the beginning (1%) and at the end (99%) must be

pretty big. I'm on a 1.5M DSL connection and my status was stuck

at those spots for a long time. Can't imagine how long it'd take on

dialup.

Hey, this D&M thing is great. With SB they just kept promising new

software. D&M takes over and boom, out comes some software. :)

I'm sure the update was almost ready prior to auction, but it's nice

for some optimism. :)

Hmm, I thought we were supposed to expect 5.0 software,

ie the version should be 53050xxxx. This seems like it is still

in the 4.5 family 53045xxxx. Haven't had a chance to fully

explore, but version #s seem to indicate this is mostly bug

fixes rather than major release. Not looking a gift horse in

the mouth, bug fixes are good.

Anyway, back to verifying if color flashing is fixed.

I'm not sure if it is my imagination. Channel surfing seems like it was

slightly improved. I'm using analog cable through RF input. It used

to take 5-6 seconds to change channels. Now it seems like 4-5 seconds.

The last time I spoke with SB tech support the rep said he had a new sw version on his box there that, among other things, had the ability to record first run only and had a completely different recording scheme (no more guaranteed/not guaranteed). I guess this is not that. Oh well. I hope all the bugs are fixed.

I can verify the color flashing problem (when a scheduled record

starts while you are currently watching a show) is fixed. No more

pause/guide/play for me :)

Also, I tried scheduling a new show to record. It still has guaranteed

and non-guaranteed options, so unless it is implemented in a non-obvious

way, I don't think that has changed. I looked under more options and

there wasn't a "first run only" option.

yeah, those features are all in ver 5 software, which the rep indicated (although not by ver #) he had on his box at his station at the call center.

Hun, they don't roll out software to all units at the same time. The do it in groups of serial numbers. Otherwise the servers would be overloaded and no one would get their guide data.

Don't believe me? Read the old posts in here about previous updates.

I'll second the improved channel change times. They only take 4 seconds now instead of 6 to 7 seconds previously.

I've also noticed the Replay Guide and Channel Guide response times seem better. My universal remote seems to be recognized better, too. Don't know if any bugs in the IR area were fixed in this release but it sure seems that I'm not having as many unrecognized key presses.

I noticed on PlanetReplay that someone from Sonic Blue said they would notify everyone when and what the new release will address before it's made available to the public.
Actually I heard that everyone who repeatedly forces net connections like a bratty little child will have both their Commercial Advance and IVS features disabled for 45-days per forced net connection.

I wasn't able to test that new feature out. I think it is a great feature,

but I don't think SB, with the auction and all, had time to implement it. ;) ;)

Anyway, my CA option is still there, though I have only used it 3 times

in my life. I like 30 second skip better since I like getting a sampling of

the commercials I'm skipping over, especially when they tell me the

modified show times for sweeps week :)

I can verify that the streaming bug where 5xxx acting as streaming

server loses ability to stream with the streaming client displaying

error "Unable to contact remote machine" or "Video temporarily

unavailable" is still there.

This is *not* the same as losing IP connectivity bug, which I cannot

investigate since it doesn't happen to me. When the streaming server

bug happens, the streaming server unit is still ping'able, can still do

net connects, and can still act as streaming client.

So after using this release for 2 hours, I'm happy. It seems to have

fixed or improved some areas and (for me) hasn't resulted in new bugs.

Color flashing is gone and channel surfing seems slightly improved.

The primary fix in 4.5, build 135 is a bug that could lead to infinite reboots and no boots. This is not the 5.x release. I don't currently have any info on other improvements.

Damn, I must have been on drugs earlier. I could have sworn I was

watching a show while a recording started and the flashing didn't

occur.

I just noticed the flashing again, so apparently either it was never

fixed (and I was totally confused) or it was partially fixed. Sorry for

any confusion.

Yee Haw!

That's what I was looking for... Just re-imaged my disk from the ROD. We shall see...

Thanks for the info...
