5050ub problem, "no signal, need help"

3183 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  GHS Film
Hello,

I have an Epson 5050UB I just purchased.

I'm having a problem where it says "no signal" when trying to use an xbox one X.

I have everything being run through a Yamaha 4K receiver.

From the receiver I have a kable direct HDMI cable running to the projector that is rated up to a 18 GBS, 120 GHz 4k.

Everything plugged in to the receiver running to the projector with this cable works except the xbox.

I have a media Box with a hard drive that works, I have a fire stick that works.

If I switch the output to the television hooked up to the receiver, the xbox displays perfectly fine to the TV, which is a Samsung Qled Q70t.

Clearly the receiver is not the issue, the HDMI cable does not appear to be the issue as well.

Just in case, I tried plugging the xbox directly into the projector with the HDMI cable directly, bypassing the receiver, and I still got "no signal".

The only thing I can think of, is something is failing to communicate between the projector and the xbox X.

Has anybody dealt with this before?
Does anybody have any suggestions on how to correct this or fixed this issue? I can't make any sense of it.

Thank you.

In settings go to signal, advanced and make sure EDID is set to enhanced. As for the cable just because it works with the TV doesn't completely eliminate it. HDMI handshake is pickier on projectors then TVs. If the cable is over 25' optical is the preferred and recommended cable type.

As stated, the cable works with every other source.
It works with a media Box as well as a first 4k.

It's ONLY the Xbox that has an issue. If it were the cable, it shouldn't be working with any if the other media sources.

There is something unique about the xbox.

I know nothing about the Xbox so can't help there. All I can say is over 90% of the time the cable is at fault with handshake issues. HDMI when working with cables 25' or longer can be a real PIA and normal trouble shooting logic doesn't always apply. Plug the Xbox into the projector with a "short" 4K certified cable and if it still fails then you can look elsewhere for your issue.

Thanks.
I ordered some optical cables just to try.

It's very strange. Had no problem with a Benq Tk-850
For some reason the 5050 doesn't like the Xbox.
But like you said..maybe there is some strange issue where ONLY the xbox doesn't work with the cable. I'll try others.

I went to the settings, but it see "Expanded " or "normal"
No "enhanced "
Did you mean "expanded'?

Yes, every manufacture calls it something different but you got the idea.

The XBOX is probably outputting its signal at 4K HDR 60Hz where as the rest is possibly only outputting at 24Hz, one is a 18gbps signal and the other only 10gbps. I'm not saying this is definitely your problem here but I'd say almost 95% of the time this very complain is brought up it ends up to be the cable used and switching to an optical HDMI cures it.
In case anyone else has this problem (I did but with a 4K bluray player), mine was fixed by actually changing the EDID setting from Expanded to Normal. So if you're having this problem, definitely try both settings. Additionally, updating firmware on all your devices in the chain could update the EDID compatibility for your device and fix the handshake problem.
