At a 5ft+ viewing distance which would you pick if the 5020 was twice the price of the 5080? I was pretty set on either the 5020 or panny 50pz800u but went and looked at best buy today and they still have new 5080s so now the decision is a bit harder. I want 1080p for bluray but difficult deciding if its worth double the money.

If it was me, I'd go for the PDP-5020FD (especially at that viewing distance). You should also consider buying from a forum sponsor. Their price will be much better than Best Buy's.

Go for the 5010 from Costco. Meets all your needs and it cost less than 5020.

No costco in town

I guess forum sponsor is an option...i just like having the extended warranty from best buy where there's no hassle getting a new one if i have any issues. also can get no interest financing from best buy.

any other thoughts?

Can you sit at least 8-9 ft away? If so, the 5080 will do. 5ft is simply too close for a 768p set. Frankly, IMO 5ft is too close for any TV. Maybe a 4280 or 950 would be better for you given your extremely close viewing distance. BTW, don't worry about 1080p for Blu-ray, the 5080 will be great. You need more viewing distance.

Yeah, maybe that's the better option, moving the couch back...who needs a full size kitchen table anyway, right?

I'd much rather the 5020, obviously but I can get the 5080 and the new onkyo 806 when it comes out plus towers and a sub... for the price of just the 5020.

Like I said, if you can sit at least 8-9ft away (10ft ideally) this decision is a no brainer, get the 5080. Frankly, based on the D-Nice review, it's a better TV in most areas compared to the 5020. Move your couch and get the 5080, you will love it! Just ask the 5080 owners in the 8G threads.

Yes, you can order the 5010 from Costco, and it comes with an exta year of warranty for free.

Maybe you should read that review again, did you miss the part where he said the he would take the 9G non Elite, over the 8G Elite anyday? So how exactly do you get that the 8G non elite over the 9G.
