Any takers?

China appears still feeling it's way in the global market, for flat screen TV's.

Could they be further along than we suspect. They appear to be making large scale LCD glass.

55" for $7249 on the horizon?

Same story different source

I believe Konka is one of China's largest TV mfg's.

they could sell all of these they could make if they could bring the quality and reputation up near the japanese or korean manufacturers. easier said than done, however- i personally do not trust the chinese in areas like this.

I'm not sure why you say you don't trust the Chinese for quality (agreed they do not have "reputation" in this area... yet). Look (if you haven't already) at all the products we in the USA already buy daily that are made in China under brand "names" we are use to. You'll find clothes, furniture, appliances, electronics, etc. There don't seem to be many complaints about their quality. I seems logical from what I know of the Chinese, when they start exporting products under their own brand names they will go out of their way to make good quality products... only cheaper. They want to establish a good reputation. China is the new "japan" if you know what I mean.

"Konka said it has not decided when it will begin volume production of the model, which is priced at more than 60,000 yuan (US$7,249), but will wait for demand to pick up."

I don't know about the reporting in DigiTimes sometimes. Either that or I don't know who is running Konka. If they actually could build a 55-inch LCD and sell it for $7250, they'd cause demand to rise and would immediately vault from profound irrelevance, to technological leadership in the global LCD TV market.

Just a little history here....Konka is a huge manufacturer in China. They came to the US about 5 years ago under the tutelage of a beautiful young woman. They hired two friends of mine and took the industry by storm. 3 years later the beautiful young woman decided she wanted a career in another industry and poof, they were gone. I hear rumors of a comeback but nothing yet. They left a lot of retailers holding the bag.
