I am in the market for a widescreen RPTV for a newly constructed great room. The room is large (roughly 23' x 23') The sitting area is arranged in a U shape facing the wall where the RPTV will be placed. If sitting the distance to the TV would range from 8' to 12'. Also sometime the kids lie on the floor which puts them about 6' from the TV. Should I be looking at 57" or 65" size RPTV's?

Thanks

12' would be okay for a 65" but I think 8' is just too close for a 65" screen.

A 57" may be the best choice in your case. You can always buy from a place with a liberal return policy and try both. One thing to consider when looking at a RPTV is the verticle viewing angle. Lying on the floor or standing up will make the picture darker than it would be from the sweet spot. Unless the TV is left at the factory default settings and then you can just wait for burn-in.

57"

For a 65", 8' is too close and 12' is marginal (at least for SD material).

Of course this is JMO. My 65" is at 14'.
