58" Maxent coming

3533 Views 15 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  enigmatai
I just read that Maxent is coming out with a 58" plasma in the third quater. I could not find out if it will be 720p or 1080p but I assume it will be 720p since it's MSRP will be $2499. I do wonder where they are getting their 58" glass.

If this is anything like the 58X60U this could be a hit. But based on past experience with Maxent they are a 3rd Tier plasma maker.

I agree with the third tier part but does anyone besides Panasonic make 58" glass? If Maxent is getting glass from Panasonic then what else are they getting from Panasonic? Can this be a re-badged 60 series Panasonic?

58" Glass other than Panasonic, nope. And is it a possibility that they are using Panasonics 50" glass? Possibly, but really could be one of several different manufacturers, and I don't think you will find anything published as to who really is the OEM for the Maxent screens.
Are you saying that this 58" glass could only come from Panasonic? I would think that anybody that does repair work on the 58" or the 50" Maxent will be able to figure out who supplies the glass, processer, power supply etc. since they will eventually have to order replacement parts. I would also think that a large retailer, (Best Buy, CC, Fry's, Tweeter), would know someone, (salesman), from Panasonic or Maxent that could spill the beans. Even a professional reviewer from one of the magazines should recognize certain private labeled components.
There are certain plasma display sizes that are only produced by a specific manufacturer like the 65" Panasonic, 55" Hitachi, 37" Panasonic and 58" Panasonic. Because of their unique size the natural deduction can generally be made as to whom the manufacturer is. And from their you will find OEM displays & shared glass, which is done with several different manufacturers within the plasma display industry. Although it is not a published fact, I wouldn't say that it is a secret that Maxent is using Panasonic glass for their 58" plasma.
My deductive reasoning may have a hole in it
. I'll do a little more research into it because Samsung does make their own glass, but to see if they are sharing the 50" 1080p glass with Panasonic.

The bigger sized plasmas confuse my poor mind. Panasonic is the only mfgr of 58" glass (I think) and is just now releasing a 1080p version. Will they continue to offer a 720p? Does that mean that Maxent and Samsung must be getting 58" glass from Panasonic? Samsung shows their 58" as 1080p yet Maxent must be 720p at a list price of $2499. Phillips is ending their relationship with LG. Phillips offers a 63" yet LG does not. Phillips is coming out with a 1080p 63" but will they continue to offer the 720p version? LG manufactures the 50" glass for Vizio but do they also manufacture the 60" glass for Vizio? Why is it that all brands are available and hopefully profitable in 42" and 50" sizes yet logically must be much less profitable in limited amounts of sizes like 55", 58", 60" 61" and 63"?
Panasonic has both 720p & 1080p glass in the 58" size, and I'm still assuming they are the only manufacturer of a 58". There are a limited few who actually manufacture the glass, and as to who is sharing with whom definitely is confusing

Just wanted to make sure you guys are aware that the 50x3 has panasonic glass and internal parts. And imo it is on par with the older panasonic 50px50u as far as picture quality is concerned.
So is the 50x3 a rebadged Panasonic 50 series? How about this years 60 series and the newest 70 series?

I hear you but as pointed out above, Samsung will also be shipping a 58" starting this year so the glass could be sourced from them as well. Here is a link:

Having said that, MSRP is $5200 (it has 1080p glass) and I kinda doubt Maxent will be able to ship a similar display for $2500 MSRP. And as we already know, Panasonic's 58" 1080p models MSRP at $4700 and $5400. So the smart money says this is going to be using 720p 58" Panasonic glass which is still in use by Panasonic themselves in many countries, just not in the US.
I guess the key idea here is, since Maxent's 58" display utilizes Panasonic glass, is there any other Panasonic technology involved beyond just the glass? Over the years Panasonic's glass has been given most of the credit for superior black levels but the quality of the other components lends greatly to overall product quality. We can't know at this time but eventually we will know the percentage of Panasonic components included in the new 58" Maxent.

yes.. it absolutely is a rebadged 50 series. That was why I purchased the 50x3 at the time... I do not know about the 60 and 70 series but if form stays true this year...maxent will follow with their own models with panny glass and internal parts. I know maxent did go to lg glass for a little..because of the shortages a year ago...but I think they use strictly panasonic glass when they are available. I believe this 58"display that maxent is coming out with will have the 58" panny glass in it. And most likely panasonic parts also.
