Hi everyone,


I was just wondering macroblocking problem with the denon 5900 is related to the manufacturing date of the unit? I asked because i think 5900 was released quite early in the US and it was only released in early 2004 as A11 over here. Does that mean this might have solved the issue on the later denon units?

Nope, it is chip related and they haven't changed the chip.

Actually i can get the used 5900 at half the original price. Do you think it's worth it? After reading so many posts regarding this issue it got me worried. Will i see it with my Pioneer 434 plasma via HDMI-DVI connection or maybe a component connection?

I have a 318 and for the first time in over 6 months of using it noticed MB in the day after tomorrow in like 2 scenes. Has anyone tried to analyze the fields where the "dancing blocks" appear? It just seems too wierd of an issue to not somehow be related to authoring. e.g. I've watched underworld, which has plenty of dark scenes and not seen MB at all.

The MB issue just enhances MPEG errors that are already there. That is why you don't see it on every DVD. The post processing done to the signal also plays into it considerably.
