I can mount the PJ pretty much anywhere... I don't know if I want to mess with bulb replacements unless that is still the way to go for PQ.

Looking at the Silver Ticket STR-169150-WAB at ~$700 for the screen so far.

Much of the brain trust will say a JVC is best but unless you move up to to the NZ7, the NP5 will need to be run in high lamp.

Otherwise the Epson LS12000 would do the job.

Silver Ticket WVS is supposed to be better than WAB I think, if you are into acoustic screen. Pricing is roughly the same.

Pair either one with LS12000 and don't look back. You can get "street pricing" (and not MSRP) from one of the forum vendors here.

As others have said, for the price you mentioned, JVC NP5 and Epson LS12000 are your best choices.

That being said, both have drawbacks that should be considered.

The LS12000 is not and will never be 3D capable. The Epson does have great HDR handling, but as others mentioned it does not have dynamic tone mapping. Whether that is something that can be dialed in with firmware down the road is debatable. But it is laser based, So no bulb-color-bias, less heat and noise, and no lamp purchases to worry about.

The JVC NP5 DOES have 3D and dynamic tone mapping, but it is lamp based and those lamps are not cheap, at least not in my opinion.

After all those considerations, both of these will produce a fantastic image that will knock your socks off.

Happy Hunting.

It's not better. It's different. They each have their tradeoffs. See comparison thread here:

I just recently went with the 169128-WAB and intentionally chose it over WVS. I thought the WAB looked a little sharper from my viewing distance and it measured as being more acoustically transparent. It was also a bit cheaper. I didn't see any reason to go with the WVS.

I'm not trying to sway OP one way or the other. I would have likely been happy with either if I hadn't compared them. I'd recommend ordering samples of the screen materials and comparing for yourself.
