6010 3d emitter overwhelms my ir receiver above the screen

I have an ir receiver mounted above my screen which powers an ir repeater system in the equipment closet. The projector mounted 3d emitter completely over powers the ir receiver and thus the complete ir repeater system in the closet. The projector is about 18 feet from the screen wall. Is the projector mounted 3d emitter disabled when using the remote/extension 3d emitter? I currently use a Harmony 880 remote. I want to avoid using a rf Harmony remote. Any suggestions?
