Have a friend who is looking to buy something soon.

I will have a couple of these in my possession for eval in the near future but he can't wait.

Has a 10.5' diagonal 16:9 Stewart StudioTech 130 screen.

Room is large roughly 30'long x 17'wide x 10'ceilings

Room is painted very dark with excellent light control.

Also a very long throw distance-nearly 25'

HD from DTV is the majority of viewing with the occasional BD.

3D is low on the list.

Budget is no more than $5k

My current recommendation is the Sony HW55 given its high calibrated brightness.

Anything else he should look at?

Looking forward to your feedback...

Thanks

Has a 9' diagonal 16:9 Stewart StudioTech 130 screen.

Also a very long throw distance-nearly 28'

If he has to stick with the 28' throw, then do not bother recommending the Sony HW55ES. Even with a conversion lens, you are not going to be able to reduce the image that small from 28 feet.

Hum don't have a throw calc handy.

How close roughly would the lens need to be?

Around 16'-6" max throw distance, if you do not use a conversion lens.

Wow I guess I didn't realize the limitations of the zoom lens.

Looks like a 6030 then...

The Epson won't work at 28' feet either. The farthest for that size screen would need the lens at 22.48 feet from the screen.

Ok went and measured myself.

Screen is 10.5' diag 16:9

Trow distance from lens to screen is 25'

Looks like the Epson will work.

With a 10.5' diagonal 16:9 screen, the JVC can be a max throw of 25'-8". The Epson can be 26'-4". Both work at the available throw. The only projector that will not work of the three is the Sony.

If you could get the projector back about a half of a foot more, then you can make the JVC work too and that would be the better choice regarding picture quality.
Do you think there will be enough light output given the screen size and throw?
