So I had a friend who got a 6208 recently - since he watches mostly analog channels and had never had a DVR before, he actually took it back because he couldn't stand the pixellation on his normal TV watching. He got a regular non-DVR HD box instead. I didn't have a chance to go over and see how his signal was or anything or convince him of all of the benefits of a DVR, etc. etc.

But to get to my question - is there a way to "bypass" the Mpeg encoding capability of the DVR when watching live analog tv and just have it pass through the signal to the TV? Obviously you can split the cable and use the TV's tuner but then you lose the guide and all of the other benefits of using a cable box (not to mention having to switch TV and stereo inputs, etc.).

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Sped
