Matsushita to sell 65-inch TV in Japan from Nov

TOKYO, Aug 25 (Reuters) - Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. (6752.T: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Thursday it will start selling a high-definition 65-inch plasma television in Japan from Nov. 1 for less than 1 million yen ($9,072). The price undercuts Matsushita's current 65-inch plasma TV, which sells for about 1.7 million yen, and a recently introduced 65-inch liquid crystal display TV launched by rival Sharp Corp (6753.T: Quote, Profile, Research) with a suggested retail price of 1.68 million yen.

Panasonic brand products maker Matsushita is the world's top seller of plasma TVs, ahead of Samsung SDI Co. (006400.KS: Quote, Profile, Research) and LG Electronics Inc. (066570.KS: Quote, Profile, Research) of South Korea and Japan's Pioneer Corp. (6773.T: Quote, Profile, Research) in the fast-growing market.

Wouldn't this be cheaper in the U.S.?

"Wouldn't this be cheaper in the U.S.?"

Why? The Sharp LCD will have a higher price in the U.S. than in Japan. Other electronics do the reverse. There is no rhyme or reason.

The question on everyone's lips: Is this the 1080p version that they're talking about?
