Hi Everyone !!

Just registered - First thread

First... I would like to say THANKS to everyone who has posted here.

I spent literally hours going through AVS Forum learning about the technology, your insights, etc. This helped me understand it all... and really helped me to decide what I wanted to buy. THANKS for helping me through this.

I decided on a 65SWX20B. I am experiencing video drop out... what I mean by this is... when I am watching the TV... the video will blank out for just a split second... about every minute or two. There is no consistency to the time between when it happens... could be 45 seconds... could be 2 to 3 minutes.

It does this on all of the inputs types (component, etc.), and it does it on all of the video sources. I have tried 2 DVD players and a Zenith HD-SAT520 (directv) as sources, and they all do it.

It seems worst when I am watching HDTV on HBOH and SHOH, but I may just be more sensitive to it then... in the higher resolution... hard to say.

Hitachi's support center told me to try un-plugging it for 24 hours.

Anyone seen this? Ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks John.

Actually the picture was "great right out of the box" on this set also. I was pleasantly surprised to see that. This is partly why I really do not want to exchange it with a new one... and also for the fact it took 4 of us 35 minutes (numerous breaks) to get it upstairs... I really do not want to have to take it out and do all of that over again :)

I REALLY like the picture on this set and I am going to try to keep it !!

This sets' picture is better than all of the SWX sets that I saw at all of the CC showrooms, and it is even on par with the 57 XWX, which definitely looked the best in the store. I really thought I would have to purchase a XWX to get a picture this crisp.

This set far exceeds those that I saw in their stores. I am feeling lucky for that.

Congratulations on your new purchase!!

Couple of quick questions for you - do you have the ability to change the aspect ratio on your small remote. The manual shows the small remote having this ability (it is combined with the "exit" button) ... but I only have aspect available on my large remote. The drawing in the manual shows the small remote with the wording "Exit/ Aspect" imprinted on it... but my small remote just has "exit" imprinted on it.

Also... in the video options menu we have a "dimmer" check box selection, which seems to work backwards for me... checked it makes the screen brighter, unchecked the screen is dimmer.

Greetings

Document it with a video camera ... and get them to fix it.

I think the dimmer option will make the set adjust brightness/contrast automatically depending on current light conditions. I never use it but I think that's what it's supposed to do.

This happened for the first time for me yesterday but it only seemed to be on one particular channel so I think it may have been a cable or STB problem. I'll let you know if I see it again.

Thanks Michael - good advise - I will do that tonight. It is not that they don't seem to want to fix it (I am actually talking to a service firm they use called Servertronics), but they want me to try this 24 hour un-plugging first. With a war going on right now... finding 24 hours seems pretty tough to do. :-(

I looked through AVSF for about an hour... and could not see that anyone else had this... or commented on this problem. Seems strange that I am the only one with it... but stranger things have happened :)

I also checked to make sure I had good power to the set... the home is new construction... and it appears... as good as I can tell... to have sufficient power to the outlet. I was thinking of getting a UPS for it... as I keep losing my "Custom" channels in my Zenith HD-SAT520, and they say it is because the power is inconsistent to it. Hell... in writing this... I am wondering if that may have started this problem... but I can tell you that it has been there from the beginning... as I noticed it the first time I actually sat down and watched the first DVD on it.

Thanks

Hi Mike,

I got it at Circuit City... about 40 days ago.

They know of the problem... and did offer to replace it... but I really like the picture on this set... and I would rather keep it and have it fixed.

I am sure Hitachi would try to fix it... but I was hoping there might be something on my end that I can try. The company they have for on-site service in my area (Servertronics) has suggested that I un-plug it for 24 hours... and see if it fixes it.

I am not able to do this for them for about two weeks... and I will try a shorter time period in the mean time... but I know you have been monitoring these boards for quite some time... and I was wondering if you have ever seen this before... and if you had... what the outcome was.

Thanks!

It happened again on my set last night. Just once but this time on an analog cable channel sent at 480i by the Moto 5100. Last time it happened several times but only on one HD cable channel.

Never seen it before... Seems like a defect or somthing.

I would have it swapped for a brand new one.,

You bought it at CC, you should be all set. CC is very good about making these types of situations right, probably the best thing about buying from a place like CC.

I would just let them come pick it up and bring you a brand new one. Easiest and quickest fix.

i started experiencing sync'ing issues with my 65swx20b while playing XBox games with the component box. at first, i thought it was the xbox. i had it replaced (2 year warranty for $20 paid off). after getting a new xbox, it still happened. i tried using svideo output from the xbox instead of the component box, no problems. i bought a new hdtv/component box for the xbox. it still happens.

i have 3 component sources. i have my samsung t151 going to the first component input and my denon 3802 going ot the 2nd component input. from my 3802, i use the built in component switcher to go between the xbox and rp82 dvd player.

it ONLY happens with the xbox on component. i've hooked up my xbox via the component cables to my wega bedroom set and it's fine. must be sending something the hitachi doesn't like.

Hi thanh,

Thanks for your feedback !!

I am going to get a UPS for the system and see if that helps. Maybe conditioned power will get it to go away.

I have not had a chance to try the un-pluging for 24 hours... as suggested by the on-site repair firm (Servertronics) that Hitachi uses for my area. They asked me to un-plug it for 24 hours and see if that corrects it. I will do that Easter weekend... and I will post if that helps the following Monday.

Thanks!

Hi Dave,

I am still working on it.

Hitachi has a service contract with a company about 40 miles from me... but they want to take the set out of the house to their service center... no exceptions. It took 4 guys to get it into the house, with-out banging it around... and I do not trust them to do the same getting it out and into their shop... and them back again.

I don't want the CRTs to get jarred around, as they are aligned perfectly now. I know this because I have an almost perfect picture... much better than the sets I looked at in the stores.

Hitachi also has a service contract with a company 60 miles from me.... who has a 50 mi radius that they cover... and they will do the work (possibly) in my home. I am trying to see if I can convince them to come out the extra 10 miles... and they are considering it.

They have asked me to document the issue... by timing the intervals between drop out... on different sources... and in NTSC and Hi-def... so they can hopefully get Hitachi's input and pre-order the parts they think they might need.

Hopefully I can convince them to do this.
