Hi everyone. I have a Onkyo HTIB That's a 6.1 System I got from CC. Once I got this baby home I hooked it up and starting running cables. It turns out my attic was way too small and we couldn't get the cords run through the walls. What I ended up doing (much to my dislike) Is only using 5 of my speakers leaving the center Rear out. I ran the cords under the carpet. (Couldn't run anymore wires than I already had.)

So here comes my question I've coped with not using my system to it's full potential but the other day I saw a system in a store that had a wireless speaker for it's center rear with the rest being wired. Granted this was sold as one big system but surely they make wireless speakers and if so would it be worth it. What's the quality of these speakers etc. It would only be the center rear that would be wireless.

I was never happy with wireless speakers... they always seem to crackle occasionally with static or odd noises would come of them if someone walked in front of the speaker.

You could give the system a try... does the store allow you to borrow the system for a week (or allow returns?) Maybe the quality of the transmitter is much better than the set of wireless speakers I had.

The other problem with such a system is SQ. You are now for the rear speakers goin to use a different amp. Ill bet my bottom dollar that it is goin to be a cheap 5 watt POS with 32 gauge leads to the speaker. Puny power supplys etc. This would be totally inferior even to the onkyo HTIB reciever and be plagued with other issues. What is stopping you from running these 4 measly 16 gauge wires.

Onkyo is coming out with a fully wireless system, but just the receiver is $4k.

The system is run but it's only set up as a 5.1 system. I used monster cable so the wires are too think to run a thick one and I tried the crap that came with it and it didn't work becuase it was too long. I have every speaker hooked up but the sixth.

I'm not looking to buy a new system but just 1 6th wireless speaker. But if they crackle and make noise it would probably do more harm than good.

skip the sixth speaker. There are many threads here discussing the merits of 5.1 vs 6.1 vs 7.1 and I've come to the conclusion that it is very difficult to do 6.1 correctly and to my mind not worth the effort.

7.1 is another story and although I recognize the advantages, I probably won't be able to do it in my space especially since I am using 5 b&W 602s right now.

Skip the 6th and go watch a movie.
