Does the HD DVD standard provide for 7.1 audio? Are there any players with analog 7.1 audio outputs? If not, why not and when might there be?

I see you posted this question in the Blu-ray forum as well. There are currently no HD-DVD players with analog 7.1 outs and I have not seen any 7.1 software yet.

Thanks. I want to get a player of each format that supports this. Apparently Panasonic has a BR player with these outputs. When you say software do you mean firmware or titles?

My guess is software. I haven't seen a 7.1 soundtrack on any HD movies.

I don't know of any movies which have a 7.1 audio track on either format. A few movies have 6.1 such as We Were Soldiers
