Is it possible yet to get more than 2 channel PCM out yet when playing HD DVD or blu-ray? As far as I can tell, it seems like only analog out is supported still. true?

if so, any word on whether windows boxes will allow it any time soon or are they insisting on crippling us with this stupid DRM crap (which in this case is particularly silly)?

(i have heard that they are releasing an HDMI subunit for the X-meridian card, but will windows actually allow it to be used for movies?)

You can always use three sound cards with S/PDIF output. I know this is possible in Linux, but I am not sure about Windows. In Linux, you just use JACK to route the different channels to the different PCM channels of the three sound cards.
