7.1 placement question

280 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Gates
Hi guys, I'm building my HT room and want some advice. I have a 7.1 setup with Dipoles for sides and regular speakers for the back. I know they say to put surrounds above ear level, but how high is too high ? And do the side and back have to be at the same height, or do the dipoles have to be higher ? On another note, the HT room will be constructed in the basement and I was wondering if french doors is a good idea in an HT room. Anyone have any ? Do they vibrate ? I know they are probably not the best to keep sound out, but if I want to split the two sides of the basement, it might be the best way to not close it off completely. The basement is a little on the small side. Thanks in advance.

How many rows of seating do you have? One of the reasons that side speakers should be well above head-level is so that the sound isn't blocked by the person sitting next to you on the couch. If you only have one row of seating then this shouldn't really be an issue with the rear speakers.
Well the room isn't very big (approx 10 1/2 by 21 feet, so my couch is along the side wall and my loveseat is across the room facing the TV, wih my sofa chair being between them.
