I played my DVD "The World is not enough" last night on my current 7.1 setup. This is a DVD which I thought always contained a more artificial sounding surround track when I had previously played it.


It sounded better in 7.1 to me.


Has anyone else noticed that a well placed 7.1 setup can improve the sound of a standard 5.1 DD soundtrack? (I used Dolby PL IIx.)

I've just noticed that a 6.1 can improve it as well. 7.1, probably so.

The World is Not Enough is a Dolby Digital EX soundtrack with a matrixed rear surround, so it should certainly sound better in 6.1/7.1. With standard 5.1 soundtracks, IMO, it is hit or miss, some sound better, but with most there is little or no difference.

A perfectly setup 7.1 system does generally offer slightly better performance over a perfect 5.1 setup.



But a good to perfect 5.1 system will generally sound better than a not so perfect to poor 7.1 system.


Sounds like your 7.1 is a woken.

I did not notice that it had an EX soundtrack. I will check it again to be sure!
