Hi Writing from Australia where options are limited and prices a bit skewed.


Hoping someone might have seen these two and could help with a decision I need to make in the next few day.


Any other suggestions for around 2k would be appreciated. The PE7700 is selling for 1900 and the Z5 fro 2200 Australian dollars. Picture quality vs price is my only concideration i.e dedicated dark room, no domestic considerations re placement etc.

Bvan, not sure what the market availability of the Mitsubishi HD1000 / HC1100 is in Australia, but it's a winner in this price range in the US with excellent out of the box color. The Z5 is a nice projector too and may have better blacks in dark scenes when using the best contrast modes thanks to the DI, but in mixed scenes the DLPs still probably have a slight edge. Screendoor is reduced on the Z5 compared to the Z4 but still visible. What screen size / material / mounting position / room color do you have? Any ambient light?

Do you mean the Benq PE7700. If so stay away. It has massive bulb failure problems.


The Z5 is a nice projector if you want LCD and lens shift


The Mitsubishis mentioned above are very nice as are the Optoma HD70 and HD72 if you want DLP.

If I had 2K, I'd go for the Epson 1080.

He's in Australia so his options are limited. Z5 is a nice LCD (just keep those filters clean every 100 hours or face panel damage after 2000 hrs)


For 2K here I'd go for the Sharp 12000 MKII (720 DLP DC3)

If I could find the Epson 1080 for 2k, you can bet I'd go for it too. Perhaps you're talking Austrailian dollars, not USD?

The Mitsubishi HC1100(HC1000 in U.S) has now taken poll position. AU$1500, $400 less than the competition.


Will have to hope that we are not plagued by rainbows.
