It is my understanding that, from reading posts in this forum, the latest version of the ATI Radeon Drivers (Ver 3.7) supports 720p (1280x720). I have downloaded and installed the driver. When I get into configuation, and select "show all modes", 1280x720 is not one of the choices. Can I get the 720p settings on the Radeon without Powerstrip with this driver?

I had a similar problem with a 9700Pro with CAT 3.7 and a Marantz S2 (720p native) connected via DVI. My HTPC did only recognize the S2 as a plug-n-play monitor and I could not select 720p as a resolution – only those standard PC resolutions. My workaround was to install PS and select 720p from there. After the next reboot 720p became available. Then I deactivated PS again (I might even give it a try to de-install it completely, as I do not think I need it anymore).

Another trick is to install a "dummy" monitor Sony GDM-W900 to make the system believe a 720p capable monitor is hooked up. (For some reason this did not work for me the last time I tried...)

PS: The S2 is still not being recognized properly, but I can live with it...

Hope this helps

I have the Radeon 8500 with the HDTV adaptor. When I downloaded the latest ATI drivers (Cat 3.7) and selected 720p +optimized, the resolution was set to 1152X648.32 at 60Hz. The TV reports to be in 720p mode. I changed the resolution to 1280X720 and it worked fine but the picture was way over-scanned. I'm also not using Powerstrip.

Hope this is useful,

I had problems setting up 720p with my ATI cards (7500, 8500 & 9600). Powerstrip would not work correctly, I would get a panning 1280x720 on a 800x600 desktop. I used Rage3d Tweak and was able to setup 1280x720 easily. Google for Rage3D Tweak. Good luck!
