I have the Samsung 931 hooked up to my Panasonic LCD RPTV via DVI and was wondering if it's better to go with 720p mode or 1080i? I'm currently leaving it only 720p as that seems to be the native resolution of the TV, but 1080i is technically higher resolution.....

Leave it on 720p.

(1) DVD is only recorded 720x480i to begin with. You don't get higher resolution when it was never there in the first place. Scaling to 1920x1080i doesn't gain you any detail.

(2) The set changes it back to 720p anyway.

You could try 480p as well. There's a reasonable chance that none of the settings will make a whole lot of difference. (With 480p, the set will do the scale from 480->720, may or may not do better than the player).

Well with 720p as it's native, it can not really do 1080i as 1080i either. As it will need to convert the 1080i to the 720p. So you won't gain anything by setting it for anything more than what it's 720p native resolution is.

Also as mentione above by Stephen, the DVD itself, only has so much to give, And it's not 720p or 1080i, it's more like 480.
