If this is redundant of an existing thread, I apologize in advance, but....

I intend to add an HDTV soon and have a simple question: Is 720p native format preferable to a 1080i? It seems most networks broadcasting in Hi-def use 1080i. Does it really matter that much which native rate I choose?

As a consumer selecting 720p or 1080i is out of our control. Just be thankful it's HD instead of 480i. ABC broadcasts at 720p others do not. Either format looks good to me. Most if not all HD tuners and HD TVs can handle both formats relatively seamlessly. Search 720p if you want technical details and opinions as to the differences between the two.

But very few STBs will transmit 720p to your TV and even fewer HDTVs can display 720p natively. It gets downconverted to 1080i. Get 720p capability. You'll want it for Monday Night Football next year
