Hello people I recently purchased a Sony 40S2010 40" LCD and I have a question. Have read that this LCD will display 768p natively. If I understand this correctly, no matter what the signal is the LCD will convert it to 768p. So, how does this actually work? I mean if my LCD was to receive a 1080i signal is it down converted to 768p??? Never really heard of 768p but have 720p. So, am I only really going to get 720p no matter what? Is 768p better than 720p? Lastly, what differences are there in terms of pq between a 1080i picture and a 720p respectively? As you can tell I have a lot to learn yet. Please help if you can.

Every input.......420i/p, 720p, 1080i will all be converted to 768p for your set's display. With a 40" display - you should notice little if any difference between a 1080i input and a 720p input. LCDs are all progressive displays. You will never see an interlaced "picture". Your set deinterlaces 480i and 1080i and scales them to fit your 768p display. 768 is the highest resolution your set can display.

To tell you the truth I could not tell ANY difference in pq between 1080i/720p while watching a dvd via my Toshiba A-1 HD DVD player. They both look incredible.

Consistant with many other 'reports'. Unless you have a large screen >50 or 55" or sit real close, most will be unable to see a difference between 1080 and 720
