The Oscars were in some ways refreshingly better in the old days (e.g., watch special features on BEN-HUR DVD set and THE WIZARD OF OZ, IIRC). There seemed to be less sense of self-importance and significance exhuded by the actors and about film. Or maybe I'm just getting crotchety as I age.

I have zero, zip, nada, nil, null interest in the Oscars(tm). It has no bearing on what movies I watch or enjoy and I couldn't care less about the so called glamor of Hollywood bending over and collectively blowing itself.

Thanks, and have a nice day!

My "nostalgic" post was basically to say the same thing. I can't remember when I last watched the Academy Awards Show-off.

Yeah, that's how I read your post- I just put it more colorfully
There certainly was a time when the awards meant something.

Yeah, but even that doesn't have the entertainment value of, say, a Marlon Brando (or lack thereof
)

Well, if Mark Wahlberg got a nod why not Beyonce?

The Academy in todays world; ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Sad!

The Hollywood Walk of Fame; (Ryan Seacrest has one)
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Sad!

The once symbolic meaning of "THX",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Sad!

Just My 2 cents.

BORAT for Adapted Screenplay? Adapted from what? Maybe they're referring to the HBO television show...

As I understand it, each of the individual branches vote for their own nominees, all branches vote for the Best Picture nominees and then all branches vote to pick the eventual winners in all categories.

So, with all the grousing among screenwriters about the prevelance of "reality" drama/comedy taking jobs away from them, does anyone else find it odd that the screenwriting branch of the Academy nominated BORAT, a movie whose comedy is supposedly predominantly based on an actor's improvised, in-character responses to real people in real situations, for Best Screenplay? Hmm.

ROCKY was remade: as Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky IV, Rocky V, etc., etc.

Who's next, the Fresh Prince?

What???

If you refer to Will Smith, there he is of course:

Performance by an actor in a leading role

Leonardo DiCaprio - BLOOD DIAMOND

Ryan Gosling - HALF NELSON

Peter O'Toole - VENUS

Will Smith - THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS

Forest Whitaker - THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND

No reason either actor should be excluded from acknowledgement for outstanding achievement in acting. Or are you preferring something a little more pre-biased?
