8 channel amp with low idle power usage

300 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  noah katz
I'm looking for an 8 channel amp that uses very little power at idol. I will need the amp to run 24x7. I have been talking with Crown, and the CT875 seems to only use 9 watts at idle.

Does anyone have other suggestions? I would like to keep the price under $400. the Crown I saw was a used one on ebay.

Would want to keep power between 75 watts and 150 watts per channel RMS.

Lexicon, Savant, and maybe others sell a prettier, RCA input variant of the higher power Crown CT.
Would you consider a stack of PA-1's from Emotiva?

Despite the monika, they aren't just for PA and sound great, are Class D and inexpensive.

I have two driving a pair of Triton 2+ from Goldenear.

P.S. Sorry, I just re-read your post more completely. They are $300 each so you'll run $2,400 for 8.

I seriously doubt that 9W idle power, unless it's per channel.

I've seen the Lexicon/Savant (Lexicon OEM) for under $500 on ebay.

I have one of each and they're quite full-featured; one of the nicer ones is that after 30 min or so (might be adjustable, I forget), any channel not receiving signal will go into standy and consume very low power.

They're 125W/ch into 4 or 8 ohms.
