So originally i was going to spend 600 on a rythmik.. but then i kept finding all these great subs around 750.. (not saying the rythmik isn't as good as the higher cost just more options) then I decided I can get more bang for the buck doing a diy.. i am a machinist and have access to cncs and manual machines.. however I don't get much time a day for a personal job. Then I saw the kits and thought that's perfect.. i was thinking about getting a dayton titanic mk4 15" sub and 1000w amp. It's a lil under 800 but I don't Know much about subs especially diy subs.. so is this the best for the money? Now for my specs

I have a pioneer vsx-70 elite receiver 2 b&w 684 towers and a htm62 center.. (****** surrounds and sub) my room is tiny like 10' x 10'.. now here lies a problem In around 8 months I will be moving to a new place with a bigger room however I do not know the size cuz I havnt found the place yet.. so im looking for a future proof sub for a unknown but bigger size.. i do 40% movies 40% games 20% music.. however I like accuracy.. i bought the b&w over def techs because of accuracy (price range and best buy had to be a option) but at the same time I want some nice booms and very deep bass.. it seems as if the titanic mk4 was designed for music more so then the ultimax.. Also again I don't know many diy kits so I would love to here suggestions..

Also if u think I'm better off with a pre built sub at that price mention those to.. like a power sound audio xs15 or something. Thx in advance

What you could do is build one now and then build another latter when you're in a larger room. You can get a good sub out of the MK 4 but the 15” SI has a little more (+2dB vented) to give with a little more power looking at xmax from a brick wall perspective. The 15” SI is being discontinued though, so if you did opt SI you might want to pick up both drivers since their on sale right now. You could also go with one amp to drive both drivers if that appeals to you.

I'd be wary of ordering anything from that guy, he's a little shady.
Leland Crooks is one of the best people out there to deal with. But I'd be wary of that guy who designs the speakers that he sells the kits for.

Last summer I built a 24" BF THTLP for my 10 x 11 mancave with a BASH 300. I put it behind my seating.

Without any "Tuning" even being tried, you know just to see what was going to happen, like LOUD and LOW and

WOW!

So then I ordered from PE parts for 2 more and built 2 @ 30" wide. These are for my living room where adjacent areas upped the "room" volume to 5K cubic feet.

These also reside behind the seating at the recommended loading 18 inches from a wall. They sit butt to butt.

My onkyo 818 and audysssey XT32 did the rest. I have tons of LOUD and LOW bass throughout the house and you can hear it coming up the street.

I built the lp version as that design offers more placement options.

So, IMO build a 30 or even a 36 and you'll have some money left over and some eyebrow raising low and loud bottom

When you do find that next bigger room, build another one.

edit: If you don't have a receiver that will give you the XT32 treatment, consider getting an INUKE3000 DSP. you can run your first build with that and get the benefit of the DSP and then when you build the 2nd sub (not IF)

your gonna love it.

I like "ambient" music that has a lot of synthesized lows. Clean, articulate, rooms modes excited and floor occasionally vibrating.

Also on internet radio there is a channel for nothing but pipe Organ music calaled I believe "Organnow"

I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan so the Pulse concert is a favorite go-to usually at 85-90 db on the radio shack SPL meter. ya know, just for giggles etc.

Movies like Master and Commander and so many others you'll be able to read about in the "movies with low bass" threads. Makes me glad I didn't have to fire those cannons. I augment movies with 4 Aura shakers on my seat. because I could.

I have a ZERO WAF.

And of course I'm working with REW and a Berry FBD 1124i for just the one 24" sub cause my amp is only an onkyo 270 with 2EQ so it also provides minimal sub eq. The man cave is only 10 x 11 so a 7.1 system fills the room rather quickly . .

some (inspirational) pictures at: williamtomkiel.imgur.com

edit:

v-tuner channel is called Organ Live.

Remember that "most" music does not contain much "info" for the lower 20 to 40 HZ band .The THTLP is designed to get to 20, depending on placement and room gain, but rolls off quickly right after. And the BASH 300 has a HPF at 17.7 Hz (as I read) .

If the content, music or movies is there, if you've done the work re optimal placement and "some" EQ you'll have clean, articulate, sensitive, low, loud and remarkably efficient response.
