yep..for people that have a ton of money to blow. 85 and 103 inch plasmas will be ridiculously expensive for most of us working stiffs for a long time to come...
"Hitachi and Matsushita Electric Industrial today announced that they have agreed to strengthen their partnership in the PDP (plasma display panel) TV business."

Does anyone know what the details of the partnership were prior to this? I have never seen a Panasonic plasma with Hitachi glass, nor vice-versa. Although they may have shared internal components. I know both Hitachi and Panasonic supply for Fujitsu but I did not know they had a partnership themselves.
Any guess on the price of this 85 inch?

The 103 inch Panasonic is $ 70,000 which is foolish and 220 V panel as well.

I would think if they actually want to sell the 85 inch panel it would have to be in the $ 20,000 range.

I do not see the sense in even producing these panels if the price point is not in line with other panels or alternative such as the newer 1080P front projector that are now on the market and their well under $ 10,000 price.

At this point I am considering replacing my 64 inch CRT Pioneer Elite RP TV with a 100 inch 1080P front projector system, although an 85 inch plasma does interest me if the price is not out of this world.

Perhaps there will be some suggested price information leak out.

Towards the end of 2008 larger screens will start to fall in price.

The 103 inch will then be an affordable $65,000.
Its kind of ironic that many people I know still look to something

like a plasma as being "cheaper and simpler" than a front projector.

I am in the market for a Pro 150FD but that TV is a beast. I can

only imagine what a 85" plasma would be like.

these PDP's are made for the multy millionare types, so in the meantime, let's just try to keep it real, this is a PIPE DREAM for most of us.
I have a dream for my family room in 2008 .....an 85" plasma and a ps3.... playing Final Fantasy 13!!!

let's see...the Fed cut interest rates AGAIN this week, increasing inflation by some 5-15% (I'm being conservative here)....thinking about 08-09...calculate, calculate, calculate...

these will NOT fall in price (considering that the American dollar will be worth 2 jars of spit) . They will perhaps be exclusively available as in-store eye candy and affordable only to guests on MTV Cribs.
85" is the size where the picture really starts to be interesting. Pioneer should join with Hitachi and Panasonic, as they have the knowledge to get incredible contrast ratios. Pioneer is currently not making a penny on their plasma business, so they might as well join the coalition. I think an 85" plasma could be a big seller at the right price. It is just a matter of time.

It will be less than $20,000 if they are for consumers and not business. They will not sell enough at $20,000 to make money. Only buisinesses will spend $50K on a plasma. The 65" was $10,000 when it came out and now it is much less. My 50" had a MSRP 4 times what I paid for it. Prices fall very quickly.

Plasma needs to make a good 75" 1080p affordable plasma to fight the projection and dlp rptv's. Plasma is much better picture, but they need some bigger sizes. Once a person owns a plasma, they don't want to go back to RPTV.

How big a reduction (e.g. 25%, from $20,000 to $15,000)? I'll take two!

Plasmas also need to become much more energy efficient. Imagine the yearly energy cost of an 85" plasma, let alone a 103" plasma.
