Hi Guys.

I am just about to build my HTPC.

My motherboard supports pci express 1.0 (ASUS P5KPL-CM) hence I have selected xfx nvidia 8600 gt 512 mb ddr3.

Is it good enough to offload HD processing from the processor..and stay cool..coz other than htpc operation (blu ray, music ,tv) I will occasionally use it for gaming.

Else should I go for a pci express 2.0 card 9800 series.(heavy on the pocket). It will be downgraded to a lower speed due to the motherboard limitation.

There will be no noticeable speed difference between PCI-E 1.0 and 2.0, at least until you get into the very high performance cards. I would recommend a 9600GT if you want Nvidia, or a 4670 for an ATI.
