That's in an HD DVD-only forum; it would probably be more appropriate to discuss its effects on the format war here.
Anyhow, I like how after all the talk on here about how the add-on was "sold out" and "can't be found on the shelves" that we see the thing only sold 92K. Compared to the PS3, that's pretty weak.

Compared to the number of standalone players sold by anyone, it's pretty good - probably the leader in standalone players. Of course, neither comparison is completely appropriate.
I bet Microsoft is pretty pleased with the number. 100k out of ~10 million possible is a 1% pickup rate in the first couple months. Compared to the number of DVD player owners versus high definition DVD player owners, 1% is probably pretty good.
Of course, if you extrapolate BR player adoption using these numbers, then maybe 10k (1%) of the approximately 1 million PS3's are used primarily for BR movie playback. This isn't a fair comaprison either, because the PS3 is a cheaper, and by some accounts, a beter BR player than most of the standalones. You might say that if less that 10% of PS3 players are used for priamry movie playback (which would be about the same total number as the ~100k of 360 hd dvd players), the 360 player is "winning" the "use your console to play highh def movie" war.
In other words, in a vaccuum, this stat doesnt mean much.

According to the Brits in my forum, this device was flying off the shelves in the UK as well. I do not know how many were sold in Europe, but I am certain that 92k is by no means the final number.

So 100,000 people spent money to do what a million people can do on a PS3. Watch movies and play video games. Why do people think PS3 owners have to be one or the other. They can do both any times they want. If a new game comes out, great. If a new movie comes out, great. Even hardcore gamers will probably end up buying many Blu Ray movies because they can and because their are so many coming out. Such a wide variety that there are many that appeal to each demographic. So every ps3 sold should be looked at as a plus for Blu Ray. These people are all entered into the world of High Definition.

Oh it sure as heck WILL matter when the menu text is too small/blurry to read, and the movie itself looks no better than their standard DVDs.
They will go right back to standard DVDs with a bad experience like that.

Yes. They did. You are 100% correct. However, just because they CAN does not mean they will nor does it mean they will care. However, you are correct they CAN. My point is this, it is very obvious that every single person that puchased a HD-DVD player has one inention in mind, watching HD-DVD's or they wouldnt buy it. You can safely assume that almost everyone with a 360 HDVD player has bought HD-DVD's and is interested in that format. You can't do that with the PS3.

Chill out, I'm not kicking you or your PS3 in the nuts. I have a 360 and I'll probably buy a PS3 before the end of the year. I realize they both have advantages. Sony and MS only care about your money, neither loves you for defending them. So chill out.
However, I do understand the reason some of the PS3 users are SOOO hardcore about Blu Ray. If it looses the PS3 is kinda stuck with a format issue. I like the idea that the 360 can just blug in a little Blu Ray player and be cool. I'm sure the PS3 could do that too though, so it's no biggie either way.
All I was saying is HD-DVD=100% wants to watch HD-DVD's. PS3= MIGHT want to watch Blu-Ray.

prolly already said but 94k is USA only and not even from every retailer.
The ad on is sold in other country's to and those have not been counted.

I dont need to chill cause I dont own either one. You made my point when you said that the hardcore gamers are some of the ones most interested in movies. I was just commenting on the fact the people think 10% or less will be using it. That is just not logical as most gamers are in the same demographic that many of the BD movies are geared to. There is no reason to think many or most of them will be some or many of those titles. They dont have to buy an addon. It is already built in. As for the HDTV comment, Ive stated that in many threads when it came to cheap chinese players. The people who have 30 dollar dvd players are the same ones who dont have HDTVs and wont benefit from cheap garbage HD players. Ive been told by many people that most people have HDTVs an that isnt an issue. So when Casino Royale, and Spiderman 1 + 2 and the Pirate Movies and the nearly 100 first quarter announced titles hit stores many of the PS3 owners will most likely be there at some point buying some or many titles.

At least a dozen of these out at Best Buy today - aren't moving at all, so they are easy to find if you want one.

Couple of weeks ago I saw alot of them around the big-box electronic stores, but this past weekend I went looking for one. Two futureshops, a bestbuy, and an electronics boutique, all sold out. I finally found one at an HMV. This is after the christmas season, I'd say things look decent for HD Dvd.

bestbuy by me (Secaucus store in jersey ) had 48 ps3s when I went at 8pm yesterday an hour and a half before closing. The guy siad they had gotten in 50 that day.
PS3 is doomed heh
Anyway everytime the xbox 360 drops in price there will be more people who might look at this and buy it .
The 360 is due for a drop in the spring / summer time .
So right now its 500 or 600$ for a hd dvd xbox 360 with king kong and a remote
In the summer it could be 400 or 500 for a hd dvd xbox 360 with a movie and a remote.
For next holiday they drop the price of the hd dvd drive and you could see it costing 450 - 550$ for a 360 with a hd dvd drive and a remote and perhaps a movie .
Each one of these price lvls will get more people into it .
