My 9700Pro just died. Now I need a new card high end AGP card.

The HTPC is used for MyHD, TheaterTek TS stream playback and WMV-HD. I am not much of a game player.


NVidea 6600 (I have to wait for AGP)

NVidea 6800 GT


I understand that the


ATI X800?

ATI X700 (I have to wait).


I was hoping to find one with an Artic Cooler built in.


I need to drive my display at 1360x768.


Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you want to stay ATI, I'd go for the X800Pro cheaper than the XT and good enough for HTPC (not totaly silent but reasonably so).

I have recently changed my 9700Pro for an Asus X800Pro and I'm very happy with the upgrade, PQ is way better and can now use VMR9 + FFDShow (resize, sharpen), I use mainly the component video output and compared to the 9700 is just in a different league.

The only thing I miss is the passive Zalmann VGA cooler, 100% silent.

Thanks for the tip. I am using a 9600 in the meantine so I can wait a bit.


I have to decide if I will wait for the X700 or 6600 AGP.


You may want to check this Arctic Cooling replacement fan.


They are known to be quiet and vent heat out the back of the case.

I'm using a Shuttle case so all the "BIG" coolers are ruled out, no space to put them in.

I also have a 9600, to my humble eyes PQ is lower than the X800 and no way to get VMR9+FFDShow.
